Italy, which had been blocking the beginning of Slovenia’s EU accession process with requests for return of property of Istrian optants in Slovenian Istria, removed its objections to Slovenia’s accession negotiations with the EU after signing of the “Spanish Compromise” granting priority purchase rights to former Italian owners of real estate in Slovenia.
Slovenia became the 105th full member of the World Trade Organisation at the end of July and declared convertibility of its national currency – Slovenian Tolar – in the beginning of September.
The national parliament adopted the national motorway construction programme envisaging 499 km of new motorways and roads of a suitable standard.
The first successful liver transplant performed at the Gastroenterology Clinic of the Medical Centre of Ljubljana.
