The government adopted the draft Act ratifying the Treaty on the Constitution for Europe in the beginning of January and the parliament ratified it at an extraordinary session on 1 February but the constitution never entered into force as it was rejected by some member states and was therefore replaced by the Lisbon Treaty.
Slovenia took over the annual presidency of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the priorities of which were presented by foreign minister Dimitrij Rupel in the beginning of the year to 55 permanent representatives of the participating countries. A ministerial meeting of the OSCE countries took place in Ljubljana before the Slovenian presidency ended.
The sporting event of the year was the top place of Rok Benkovič at the ski jumps world championship.
