Luka Špik and Iztok Čop win the final race in double sculls and the title of world champions in the Rowing World Championships.

Presidential elections are held

Danilo Türk wins the presidential seat in the second round of the presidential elections with 68,03% of the vote. Alojz Peterle gets 31,97%.

Signing the Lisbon Treaty

Prime Minister Janez Janša, Slovenian Foreign minister Dimitrij Rupel and other EU leaders sign the so called Treaty of Lisbon; a reform treaty with a view to enhance the efficiency and democratic legitimacy of the European Union and to improve the coherence of its action. Slovenian National Assembly ratifies the Lisbon Treaty on 29 January 2008.

Slovenia solemnly enters the Schengen area

Slovenia becomes a member state of the Schengen area on 22 December 2007 after lifting the internal border controls at land and maritime borders with the EU member states. Slovenia lifts border controls at internal air borders on 30 March 2008.
