The special occasion was organised by Honourary Counsel of Slovenia for New South Wales, Mr Alfred Brežnik. Among the members of Južne Zvezde choir and other dignitaries there was also the former Prime Minister of Australia, the Honourable Paul Keating. Paul Keating and his Labor government was instrumental at the time in helping Slovenia gain international recognition as a sovereign state.
